Author Daniel Handler, best known under his pseudonym Lemony Snicket, revealed on Twitter that he plans to donate $1 million to Planned Parenthood.
Handler and his wife, illustrator Lisa Brown, wrote in a tweet on Sept. 30 that they plan to make the donation to the women’s health organization because “good fortune should be shared with noble causes.”
Planned Parenthood responded to Handler’s announcement, thanking him for his support, New York Magazines reports.
“We've been enthusiastic supporters of Planned Parenthood for a long time, and watching their recent deceitful pummelling was frankly more than we could take,” Handler and Brown told Mother Jones following the announcement.

When asked about their connection to Planned Parenthood, the pair said they’re simply “Americans and human beings” who “believe in people making their own reproductive choices.”
Their donation is needed, they said, because “arson and propaganda, not to mention the umpteenth threat of defunding, seemed to demand some counterbalancing.”
Planned Parenthood has been the subject of intense controversy and debate recently, with Republicans in Congress fighting to defund the organization.
