Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who is running for president, accused the #BlackLivesMatter movement of “embracing and celebrating the murder of police officers” on Oct. 14 in Kalona, Iowa (video below).

Cruz was asked by ThinkProgress, a progressive website, if he would be willing to meet with members of #BlackLivesMatter, and he responded:

Oh sure, I’m happy to meet with just about anybody, but now I would point out that if you look at the Black Lives Matter movement, one of the most disturbing things is more than one of their protests have embraced rabid rhetoric, rabid anti-police language, literally suggesting and embracing and celebrating the murder of police officers. That is disgraceful.

Cruz didn't back up his claim, but accused the Obama administration of vilifying law enforcement, however, he didn't provide evidence of that claim either.

Cruz added that Obama administration was somehow responsible for black lives that have been lost, but, again, didn't back up that claim.

In response, DeRay McKesson, a #BlackLivesMatter leader, told ThinkProgress via email:

Cruz aims to perpetuate lies about a movement focused on ending violence in order to garner attention. This desperate statement is another reminder that he is unfit to be the President of the United States.

Cruz told NewsmaxTV on Oct. 13 that he was glad how Planned Parenthood had "announced that they intend to stop committing federal felonies" in reference to the organization's announcement that two of its clinics would no longer accept money for costs associated with legal fetal tissue storage and transport, reports RightWingWatch.org (video below).

Cruz also claimed that Planned Parenthood had been "caught on film repeatedly violating federal law, essentially admitting to a pattern of felonies," but Cruz didn't explain why the organization had not been charged with these supposed felonies.

Cruz also claimed that Planned Parenthood was "shown" selling the "body parts of unborn children for profit," which is not true.

Fetal tissue was discussed by Planned Parenthood and an undercover pro-life group posing as a research facility, but no actual transactions occurred in those videos.
