Republican Rep. Peter King Blames GOP for Shutdown (Video)

| by Michael Allen

While most Republicans have blamed President Obama for the federal government shutdown, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) recently said it was the fault of the Republicans, especially Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).

During an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Rep. King (R) called out Sen. Cruz's failed strategy to defund Obamacare, noted RawStory.com.

“I’m talking basically about Ted Cruz, who was saying if we [voted in the House to defund] Obamacare, he could manage to both keep the government open and defund Obamacare. The fact is, it was done in the House and the government is now closed and Obamacare is going forward," said Rep. King.

"...This was a strategy doomed to failure and Ted Cruz has now walked away from it. Now, he is saying we should negotiate on the debt limit, which we should have been doing for the last month."

Rep. King the added that if the Republicans want to repeal Obamacare, they need to do it with votes, the same way Obamacare was voted through.

He then admitted, “We are the ones who did shut the government down. You don’t take the dramatic step of shutting down the government unless you have a real strategy.”

According to a recent poll by CBS News, 44 percent of Americans blame Republicans for the government shutdown, while 35 percent blame President Obama and the Democrats.

Neither a majority of Republican or Democrat voters support the shutdown, but 57 percent of Tea Party supporters do support pulling the plug on their own government.
