Trump Reportedly Considering Palin For VA Secretary

| by Lauren Briggs

Sarah Palin is reportedly in the running to be the next secretary of Veterans Affairs for President-elect Donald Trump's administration.

A top Palin aide and a Trump transition team member both reportedly told ABC News on Nov. 30 that the former Alaska governor is under consideration for the government agency, which has more than 300,000 federal employees and a $182 billion budget for 2017, making it the largest federal agency.

"I feel as though the megaphone I have been provided can be used in a productive and positive way to help those desperately in need," Palin reportedly said to Trump's transition officials, the former vice presidential candidate's aide told ABC.

Palin was an early Trump supporter and endorsed and campaigned for him during the presidential primaries. One of her advisers told NBC News that she hopes to work with the president-elect in the future, either in the public or private sector. The Trump team has not officially commented on whether they are considering her for any positions.

Palin wrote a Nov. 30 Facebook post that also linked to the ABC News article:

We should be grateful we'll soon have a commander-in-chief who will champion our vets and honor the promises our nation made; a pro-private sector individual who surely understands bigger government is NOT the answer; a President who promised to drain the swamp and clean up all government corruption... all things our vets and active duty troops deserve.

The post also contained an old video that she shared from her son, Track, an Iraq veteran. The footage shows Palin giving a speech on plans to reform the VA by improving their access to health care, giving them more benefits and ensuring that their military skills transfer over to the workplace.

"Stop blaming the victim and wake up, Mr. President," she says in the video. "While Christians bow our heads to pray for you, radical Islamists want to cut off your head. The only thing standing between us and savages, it's the red white and blue, it's the United States military! And if you love freedom, thank a vet!"
