Rep. Steve Cohen Tweets Newly Discovered Daughter During The State of the Union

| by

During Tueday evening's State of the Union address, Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee tweeted out “ilu”, short for “I love you,” to a 24-year-old woman. The tweet was subsequently deleted from his account.

According to NBC News, Cohen is now saying that the young lady he tweeted at during the State of the Union address was not a romantic interest, but in fact his daughter.

After Cohen deleted the tweets, he initially said that the young woman who they were originally sent to, Victoria Brink, was the daughter of a family friend. Cohen, who is not married, denied that there was anything inappropriate about the tweets. It turns out that the old family friend is actually an ex-girlfriend of Cohen’s. She also happens to be Victoria Brink’s mother.

Brink has not admitted publicly that Cohen is her father so it seems a little strange that he would have chosen such a public forum to communicate with her. He claims that the reason he was tweeting such personal things to Brink was genuine excitement.

A police officer saw a young black couple drive by and pulled them over. What he did next left them stunned:

“When she let me know she was watching the State of the Union address I was thrilled that she wanted Steve Cohen to be part of her,” said Cohen. “I had such joy, that I couldn’t hold back from tweeting her.”

Details are vague, but it appears that the congressman only found out that Brink was his daughter three years ago. He has not elaborated on the matter but has said that a Google search led to the discovery.

“I googled her mother, found out she had a child and the math looked pretty accurate,” he said. “The mom told me we had a lot of catching up to do.”

Cohen has publicly stated that he loves Brink and is proud to be her dad. He has been getting to know her and actually took her to the White House Christmas party. He’s happy that she is interested in government and that she was tuned in to the State of the Union.

“I’ve been able to take her on a tour of the Capitol and the White House, I want her to see my world and be a part of it,” he said.
