Rep. Hank Johnson: President Obama Treated Poorly 'Because He Is Black'

| by Sean Kelly

Rep. Hank Johnson of Georgia said President Barack Obama has been treated poorly because of his race.

Johnson, a Congressional Black Caucus member, told The Hill that it’s “no doubt” Obama “has been treated badly because of his race.”

“So why would it be that we would find that the first black president would be treated worse than any other president in my lifetime?” he asked. “And I’m 60 years old. My conclusion is that it’s simply because he’s black.”

Johnson also recently touched on the issue of race in regard to police misconduct nationwide during a Huffington Post podcast.

“I believe it’s a culture that enables or says it's OK for law enforcement officers to shoot to kill blacks, be they male or female, Hispanics … to use excessive force,” he said.

“Yes, I do think it’s a cultural issue within certain departments. Certain departments have a documented history of using excessive force.”
