Rep. Alan Grayson Reads Poll, Congress Less Popular Than Dog Poop, Gets Cuts Off (Video)

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) stood on the House floor on Tuesday and listed the results of a recent poll that showed exactly how unpopular the U.S. Congress is since the government shutdown.

Speaker pro tempore Steve Womack (R-Ark.) repeatedly interrupted Rep. Grayson who read actual polling results from a Public Policy Polling survey (video below).

The Huffington Post reported on the survey:

According to the latest figures from Public Policy Polling, Congress has an 8 percent approval rating. The survey, conducted by the agency from Oct. 4 - 6, found that a nationally representative group of 502 voters had a higher opinion of dog poop than Congress, by an (ahem) "potent" 7 percent margin.

The more-popular-than-Congress list also includes hemorrhoids, toenail fungus, potholes, the DMV, public radio fundraising drives, the IRS and zombies.

However, when Rep. Grayson quoted these facts, Womack grew angrier and angrier.

“What do you have a higher opinion of, Congress or witches? Congress, 32 percent; witches, 46 percent. What do you have a higher opinion of, Congress or hemorrhoids? Congress, 31 percent; hemorrhoids, 53 percent. What do you have a higher opinion of, Congress or dog poop? Congress 40 percent; dog poop 47 percent,” stated Rep. Alan Grayson.

Womack kept asking Rep. Grayson to get to his argument, which was how the "dignity" of the U.S. Congress had been damaged by the Republicans since the federal government shutdown, noted RawStory.com.

"If we’re being accused of willingly provoking crises that suspend public services and decrease economic growth then surely our dignity as a body has been diminished,” said Rep. Grayson.

Womack finally cut off Grayson with his gavel.
