Sen. Harry Reid Slams DNC In Outgoing Interview

| by Oren Peleg

Outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid saved no words for the Democratic National Committee and its former Chair, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, expressing his seeming frustration with the committee in a recent interview.

"I believe one of the failures of Democratic Party has been the Democratic National Committee, the DNC, has been worthless," Reid told Nevada Public Radio in an interviewed that aired Dec. 21, reports The Hill. “They do nothing to help state parties. That should be the main goal they have. I developed everything in Nevada on my own. Their help was relatively meaningless."

Wasserman Schultz resigned from her chairwomanship in July following leaked emails purporting to show how the DNC was biased against Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont in his Democratic Primaries campaign against Hillary Clinton.

“Debbie Wasserman Schultz, she’s always been good to me,” Reid said in July, notes The Huffington Post. “I like her just fine. I know she’s tried hard, but as some people probably know, I thought Bernie deserved somebody that was not critical to[ward] him. I knew -- everybody knew -- that this was not a fair deal. So I’m sorry she had to resign, but it was the right thing to do. She just should’ve done it sooner.”

Rep. Keith Ellison is the frontrunner to become the new chairman of the party.

"We need a full time DNC chair and what they should do -- they can take my model if they want -- it’s not rocket science,” Reid continued of the DNC in his interview with Nevada Public Radio, notes The Hill. “It doesn’t take a lot of brain power to figure out what needs to be done … They should take a few states every election cycle, maybe three maybe four, and help them develop the infrastructure for good state party organization."
