President Obama Talks About Valentine's Day, Hints at Malia Dating

| by

President Barack Obama is just like every other husband in America today as he plans to celebrate Valentine’s Day with his wife Michelle. He even hinted that his eldest daughter, Malia, might have a Valentine as well.

On Thursday, Obama said as his children get older, “they have sleepovers and dates,” which prompted many to wonder if Malia has a boyfriend.

Though the White House did not comment on the subject, he discussed the challenges of raising teenagers and their constant disappearance on weekends when he spoke at a school in Decatur, Georgia.

“I do have to warn the parents who are here, who still have young kids, they grow up to be like, 5 feet 10 inches. And even if they’re still nice to you, they basically don’t have a lot of time for you during the weekends,” he said.

“They have sleepovers and dates. So all that early investment just leaves them to go away.”

Though they also have daughter Sasha, she is too young to date being just 11 years old.

During the speech, he assured everyone he had plans for the special day of love.

“I’ve already got a gift, got the flowers,” he said. “I was telling folks, the flowers are a little easier, though, because I got this rose garden. A lot of people, you know, are keeping flowers around."

He was in Georgia to promote his new plan for universal access to pre-kindergarten programs.

Last year on Valentine’s Day, he took his wife to dinner at Vermillion, a restaurant in Old Town, Alexandria, Va.

He did not say where they were celebrating this year.

He did say that it would take a brave person to date either of his daughters.

“I think that any young man who has got the guts to get through Secret Service deserves a hearing!” he told Ryan Seacrest in an interview.

Obama has said his wife is in charge of overseeing the children’s social calendars.

“Michelle is very good about making sure that we’re creating a space for them where they can have sleepovers. They can go to the mall. They can go to the movies,” he said.

“They’re going to homecomings at their school.”

Malia’s aunt said in January that when she does start dating, it will be watched carefully.

“I think my brother is relieved that if she ever does decide to go on a date, it’s going to be with Secret Service,” Maya Soetoro-Ng said.
