| by Brendan Kelly

President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama made an appearance a homeless shelter in Washington, D.C., as part of a Martin Luther King Jr. Day service project in their last week living in the White House, but what they heard crowds chanting shocked the president (video below).

As the Obamas prepare to move out of the White House, they decided to donate their daughters' swingset from the South Lawn, known as "Malia and Sasha's Castle," to the Jobs Have Priority shelter.

The couple also spent part of their Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the shelter, showing the kids how to use their new swingset.

"Brings back memories," the president said as he pushed a child on the swing. "This is about how big Sasha was when we showed up."

The Obamas also spent some time helping paint a mural in tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. at the shelter The mural, titled "Wall of Hope," was created by artist Omatayo Akinbolajo. The Obamas helped color in parts of the mural.

The Jobs Have Priority shelter primarily serves African-American families, many of whom have children with mental, physical or developmental disabilities, according to WCSH.

Outside the shelter, as the Obamas played with children on the newly donated swingset, a crowd gathered outside, chanting "Obama! Obama! Hey, hey, hey, Goodbye."

The swingset was installed on the South Lawn of the White House in March 2009, two months after the Obamas moved in, reports CNN. Sasha and Malia Obama were 7 and 10 years old at the time, respectively.
