Newlyweds Stephanie and Brian Tobe were in for a huge surprise when an unexpected guest showed up at their wedding in San Diego, California.

On Oct. 11, Stephanie and Brian were at their wedding ceremony at The Lodge at Torrey Pines, which overlooks the world famous Torrey Pines Golf Course, when they noticed President Barack Obama playing golf just steps away from them, Fox 5 San Diego reports.

According to the couple's photographers, Jeff and Erin Youngren, President Obama was just finishing his game at the 18th hole, directly in front of the location of the wedding ceremony, when the wedding party saw him.

The Tobes, who have been together for eight years, can be seen in photos taken by the Youngrens pressed up against the windows of The Lodge watching the President complete his game.

"Between Stephanie getting her makeup done, she kept peeking out the window looking," Jeff told ABC News.

Although the newlyweds knew that President Obama would be golfing nearby, they were completely taken by surprise when he came to greet them just before the ceremony.

Stephanie said that after the president finished his game, he went down to the lawn area, where her and Brian's wedding ceremony was.

According to Stephanie, all 60 of her wedding guests lined up to shake the president's hand.

Then, while "one photographer, Erin, was down talking on the lawn," their other photographer, "Jeff, was up with us in the suite," Stephanie said. "And they're saying things like, 'Oh, this might be the one chance; you've got to go now."

According to Jeff, Stephanie said, "We're going to go do this," before bolting out the door.

Stephanie and Brian ran out onto the grass to meet the president, drawing cheers from their friends as they ran across the field.

"Right when we saw him, Stephanie got to him first," Brian said. "And he said congrats to Stephanie right away.

"And at that moment he pointed out that my foot was actually on the train or the trail of her wedding dress on the ground and he said, I don’t remember his exact words, but he’s so relaxed, and he says nope, nope you know ... you can’t step on the wedding dress.”

Jeff said that the president was "really gracious" and hugged the bridge.

Brian, like President Obama, is from Chicago, and the two reportedly shared some lighthearted conversation about the city.

"I still can't believe it happened," Jeff said, noting that Obama mostly joked around with them.

"It was not what we expected when we woke up that morning," he added.
