While conservative Republicans are eager to shut down the federal government to cut off federal funding for Planned Parenthood, a new poll shows 69 percent of Americans oppose a shutdown over the health care organization, while 23 percent support the extreme measure.
The Quinnipiac University poll released on Sept. 28 found that 36 percent of Republicans support the shutdown.
In the same survey, Planned Parenthood had a 50 percent approval rating among women, while the majority of men disapprove of Planned Parenthood by 43 percent to 38. Women are more likely to use the organization's services.
Most Americans oppose the simple idea of cutting Planned Parenthood's funding by 52 percent to 41 percent; women disapprove of funding cuts by 60 percent to 34 percent, but men favored cuts by 49 percent to 44.

With House Speaker John Boehner resigning at the end of October, the House Republicans will likely be able to pass a federal government funding bill with no amendments that would defund Planned Parenthood, notes Politico.
