Barack Obama Appears Pensive During Vacation (Photos)

Former President Barack Obama appeared to be in deep contemplation while heading home from a workout.

Obama spent the first couple of days of his retirement working out at Thunderbird Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California, and playing golf at the very exclusive Porcupine Creek Golf Club near Palm Springs, the Daily Mail reported.

The former president appeared to be in deep thought as he sat in the back of a dark vehicle on Jan. 22, two days after handing off the Oval Office to incoming President Donald Trump. He was accompanied by a few Secret Service agents, the smallest security detail he's had in years.

In 2013, Obama signed a bill that would give all presidents -- past, present and future -- Secret Service protection for life. The previous legislation only gave protection to presidents for 10 years after they left office.

The Obamas are reportedly staying at the mansion of Spanish ambassador James Costos in Rancho Mirage on vacation. The Porcupine Creek Golf Club is known as one of the most exclusive golf clubs in the world.

Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison owns the golf course, and membership is by invitation only. It was ranked in the top 20 golf courses in California by Golf Digest.

Obama is no stranger to the world-class golf course. He was previously there in February and in 2014, he was spotted there with King Abdullah II of Jordan.

The 44th president took to Twitter to let his followers know that he and Michelle would soon be getting back to work.

"Hi everybody! Back to the original handle," Obama tweeted. "Is this thing still on? Michelle and I are off on a quick vacation, then we’ll get back to work."
