Fox News Slams Obama For Not Going to Gettysburg, Gives Former Presidents Free Pass (Video)

Fox News manufactured a new fake "controversy" against President Obama today.

This time the conservative cable channel slammed President Obama for not going to Gettysburg, Va., on the anniversary of the Gettysburg Address, but gave every other former president a free pass for making the exact same choice (video below).

Gettysburg has not had a sitting president present at the anniversary since President William Howard Taft in 1909, notes The Evening Sun.

Given that no sitting president has come to Gettysburg on the anniversary in more than 100 years, some local leaders were actually surprised that President Obama would be not coming.

"We don't know why he's not coming, but stuff like this happens with elected officials," said Gettysburg Mayor William Troxell.

On "Fox & Friends" this morning, host Brian Kilmeade and guest Wall Street Journal columnist Daniel Henninger were also shocked that President Obama would not be in Gettysburg today, noted MediaMatters.org (video below).

"As Americans flock to Southern Pennsylvania, to commemorate, you won't find President Obama joining in that honor," said Kilmeade. "Is it inappropriate for our president to bypass the celebration?"

Oddly, Kilmeade did not pose the same question about the previous presidents who did not attend the anniversary.

Henninger then repeated the often-quoted GOP talking point about how President Obama "presides over a country more intensely politically divided that any of us can remember."

Henninger did not mention the presidencies of George W. Bush, Lyndon Johnson during Vietnam and Richard Nixon during the Watergate scandal.

"You're forced to speculate because you haven't gotten a good answer, nor has anyone, as to why he isn't there," stated the historically-challenged Kilmeade.
