Former White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs Says People Should Be Fired for Obamacare Rollout (Video)

| by Emily Smith

Former White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs criticzed the rollout of Obamacare Monday, adding that officials responsible for the glitches and delays on the website should be fired.

“This is excruciatingly embarrassing for the White House and for the Department of Health and Human Services,” Gibbs said. “This was bungled badly.”

Gibbs argued that while some hiccups were to be expected, a site crash because of a architectural website problem was beyond what should have been expected.

“I hope they’re working day and night to get this done,” Gibbs added.

Gibbs noted that if Americans weren’t distracted with the government shutdown, Republicans would be obsessed with drawing attention to Obamacare.

Earlier this month, U.S. Chief Technology Officer Todd Park noted that HealthCare.gov drew five times as many visitors as expected, and that the high traffic caused some of the website’s glitches.

President Obama has sought to downplay the glitches by comparing the website to Apple’s bumpy rollouts, though Gibbs is not convinced.

"This is not iTunes,” Gibbs said. “This is health care.”

Gibbs added that it is unlikely that people will return to the site if the glitches are not fixed.
