During his appearance on the 'Chris Matthews Show" today, famed TV journalist Dan Rather described what President Obama's Republican opponents think of him, regardless of his attempts to reach across the political aisle.
"All of these things we’ve said about what the president could do, should do, might have, could have, but the central thing to keep in mind is his opponents, you talk about taking them out to dinner, making nice with them, these people politically want to cut his heart out and throw his liver to the dogs. That does make it very, very difficult to come on nice to them," said Rather, per NewsBusters.org (video below).
Last week, Republican Senator Pat Toomey (Pennsylvania) admitted that his party voted against the Senate background check bill simply because President Obama supported it.
"In the end, it didn't pass because we're so politicized. There were some on my side who did not want to be seen helping the president do something he wanted to get done, just because the president wanted to do it," Sen. Toomey told MainlineMediaNews.com.
