Assange Claims Russians Did Not Hack Clinton Emails

| by John Freund

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has stated that Russia did not hack Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s emails, and that anyone could have -- given that campaign manager John Podesta’s email password was "password."

The Daily Mail reports that Assange delivered an interview from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he has been in hiding for years.  In the interview, Assange says he is "1,000% certain" Russia was not behind the Clinton hack, and that Podesta’s email password was "password," which is something that a "14 year old" could guess.

Assange also claims Podesta responded to phishing scams through his email.

Assange further added that President Barack Obama’s attempt to blame the Russians is simply him "trying to delegitimize the Trump administration."

Assange also mentioned the cozy relationship that Clinton had with reporters.  “It's more like, ‘You rub my back, I'll rub yours. I'll give you information, you'll come to my – I'll invite you to my child's christening or my next big party,” he said.

President-elect Donald Trump responded with a timely tweet:  "Julian Assange said 'a 14-year-old could have hacked Podesta' - why was DNC so careless? Also said Russians did not give him the info!"

According to Fox News, Assange further states, "We published several ... emails which show Podesta responding to a phishing email.  Podesta gave out that his password was the word ‘password’. His own staff said this email that you’ve received, this is totally legitimate. So, this is something ... a 14-year-old kid could have hacked Podesta that way."

Last week, Obama accused 35 Russian diplomats of spying and gave them 72 hours to leave the country. Russian President Vladimir Putin claims he will not respond, and instead wait for Trump to take office to attempt a thawing of relations between the two former Cold War foes.

Obama has delivered some tough talk for Putin in recent days. It remains to be seen if that type of rhetoric will continue given this latest revelation.
