Vice President Mike Pence defended President Donald Trump's recent attacks against the media in Brussels on Feb. 20 (video below).
On Feb. 17, Trump twice referred to the media as an "the enemy of the American people" on Twitter.
Pence made his assertions during a press conference broadcast on MSNBC:
Rest assured. Both the president and I strongly support a free and independent press. But you can anticipate that the president and all of us will continue to call out the media when they play fast and loose with the facts.

The truth is that we have in President Trump someone who has a unique ability to speak directly to the American people. And when the media gets it wrong, I promise you, President Trump will take his case straight to the American people to set the record straight.
Trump's Twitter attack on the media on Feb. 17 did not cite any specific errors in specific stories, but was rather a broadside attack on several news organizations, noted RawStory.com.
Trump supporter evangelist Franklin Graham echoed the vice president on Facebook on Feb. 19:
I know several members of the media personally and can say that some are extremely honest and seek the truth. But, unfortunately, that’s not the norm today. President Donald J. Trump has been saying what we all know—that the news media has been lying. In today's terminology, creating fake news.

Fake news is nothing new—it was going on in the Bible. When Jesus died on the cross for our sins and was placed in the tomb, He said He would rise in three days. The Pharisees had guards assigned to watch the tomb, and on the third day an angel from heaven came and rolled the stone away.
The Lord Jesus walked out of that tomb. The guards reported this to the religious leaders who instructed them that if anyone asked, they were to say that Jesus' supporters had come and taken the body. It was fake news to serve their own agenda.
As a matter of Biblical record, there was no news media (in the sense of what modern society recognizes) during the time of Jesus Christ.
