Michelle Says Barack Wore Same Tuxedo For Eight Years

| by Sheena Vasani

Former first lady Michelle Obama called it "unfair" how the world endlessly commented on her outfits while husband, former President Barack Obama, got away with wearing the same tuxedo outfit for eight years.

"This is the unfair thing," she said, speaking at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference on June 6, reports The Huffington Post. "You talk about Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, no matter what we do, he puts on that same tux. Now, people take pictures of the shoes I wear, the bracelets, the necklace -- They didn’t comment that for eight years he wore that same tux ... same shoes."

Later reports reveal the former Michelle's comments were mostly true. While the former president did wear a different tuxedo jacket at a 2014 state dinner with France and with Japan later in 2015, he essentially wore two different tuxedos during his entire presidency.

Yet it appears the couple took the double standards in stride, sometimes even poking fun at it.

This young teenage singer was shocked when Keith Urban invited her on stage at his concert. A few moments later, he made her wildest dreams come true.

"He was proud of it too," she added about Mr. Obama's repeat outfits. "He’s like, 'Mm, I’m ready. I’m ready in 10 minutes. Mm, how long did it take you?' And I’m like, 'Get out of here.'"

Many on social media were quick to comment on Michelle's remarks.

Some sympathized and complained about double standards.

"There’s no denying the disparity in coverage between the two Obamas and their fashion choices," writes Jamie Feldman for The Huffington Post. "To this day, people hang on every last detail of the former first lady’s wardrobe (and with good reason: She’s a great dresser). And yet, we’re just now learning about her husband’s repeat habit. Makes you think about the standards to which men and women are held when it comes to dressing for work, eh?"

"Such double standards in society," agreed one Daily Mail reader. "No one cares what a man wears, only in what he says or does. Women though are always judged on their look and outfit regardless if what they say or do. So thankful I am a guy."

Others, however, didn't agree with Michelle that it was "unfair."

"Boo freaking hoo!" wrote one Daily Mail reader. "You had eight years of travel and living in the lap of luxury."

"Maybe because men don't have many choices and because women are always trying to outdo  each other," added another.

"If it's such an issue for her, she should do exactly what he did," argued a fourth. "Wear the same dress and shoes and make a point. She chose to wear a different dress and shoes...so she played a big part in whatever 'unfairness' she claims occurred."
