Marco Rubio’s “Water Bottle Moment” from the State Of the Union Rebuttal (Video)

| by Alex Groberman

Aside from the good folks at MSNBC, there weren’t all that many Americans who were looking forward to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address. We all knew what would be said. We all knew where the battle lines would be drawn. We all knew that, inevitably, a lot of promises would get made that won’t actually be kept.

This isn't our first rodeo.

The far more interesting speech of the night was Sen. Marco Rubio’s rebuttal. Not because he was going to say anything of substance either, and certainly not because he has done anything to date that would make him an even moderately qualified presidential candidate, but simply because he is allegedly the Republicans’ Next Big Thing. He is the one who will lead the party out of the darkness, apparently.

Tuesday night was supposed to be Sen. Rubio’s coming out party. How did he do? Well, this video pretty much says it all:

As you can probably guess, the only thing that anyone remembers from the entire rebuttal is Sen. Rubio's water break. Part of that is because he said absolutely nothing of note during his entire speech, but part of it is also because of how shockingly stupid it was to take that awkward pause at that particular moment.

Republicans have a back-up Next Big Thing, right?
