Poll: Most Americans Doubt Trump Can Handle Presidency

| by Ray Brown

President-elect Donald Trump is only days away from taking over the White House, but many Americans don't have faith in his abilities to handle the job.

According to a Gallup poll, less than one-half of Americans trust Trump to handle an international crisis (46 percent), to use military force wisely (47 percent) or to prevent major scandals in his administration (44 percent).

That's a stark difference from how Americans felt in the days before the last three presidents took office.

At least 7 in 10 Americans were confident in Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton in these areas before they took office.

But Trump does have the majority of Americans' trust when it comes to other matters.

When it comes to working effectively with Congress, 60 percent believe he'll perform well, 55 percent believe he'll defend U.S. interests abroad and 53 percent expect him to be an effective manager in the executive branch.

According to U.S. News & World Report, consumer confidence reached a 15-year high since Trump won the election.

“Consumer confidence improved further in December, due solely to increasing expectations, which hit a 13-year high," said Lynn Franco, director of the Conference Board, which published the report. "The post-election surge in optimism for the economy, jobs and income prospects, as well as for stock prices ... was most pronounced among older consumers."

And Trump made sure to point that out via Twitter.

“The U.S. Consumer Confidence Index for December surged nearly four points to 113.7, THE HIGHEST LEVEL IN MORE THAN 15 YEARS! Thanks Donald!” Trump tweeted.
