In an interview with CNN, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said that if billionaire real estate mogul Donald Trump wins the party’s nomination, it’d be the end of the GOP.
"If Donald Trump is the nominee, that’s the end of the Republican Party,” Graham said.
Graham, who is also running for president, defended his low poll numbers during the interview, and criticized Trump — the current GOP frontrunner — for his lack of experience on foreign policy and the military.
“He's shallow. He’s ill-prepared to be commander in chief,” he said. “He's a complete idiot when it comes to Mideast policy."
Graham added that if Trump gets the nomination, Republicans would lose and “should lose.”
“There's a dark side of politics that Mr. Trump is appealing to," he said. "Demagoguing immigrants, he's not the first guy to do this and he won't be the last and there's always a market for it, but it's not sustainable.
"It will ruin our party. If he becomes the nominee, we'll get killed."
