Kansas City Mayor Sly James was interrupted this morning while giving his 'State of the City' speech, which recalled the improvements and accomplishments of the city, including Raquel Welch's 1970's film 'Kansas City Bomber' (video below).
Suddenly, an unidentified man stormed the stage, grabbed the Missouri state flag, threw it across the stage and took over the microphone, reports Mediaite.com.
“This man had just gotten through talking about what the f*ck he ain’t godd*mn did!” the man yelled.
Mayor James' bodyguards grabbed the angry man from behind and struggled to get him to the floor.
Police said the man was in custody and may be charged for assault on a law enforcement officer.
“It’s unfortunate that we have people who feel that somehow we have left them behind. I don’t blame him for whatever feelings he wanted to express, I do have a small problem with the method," said Mayor James.
“I wondered what set that off and what he was trying to say. I was a little surprised that when he came up there, as vociferous as he was, he never actually did anything to me.”
KSHB-TV apologized for the profanity and interruption during their broadcast.
According to KansasCity.com, James praised his bodyguards’ quick reaction: “Those guys are super. They were right there. They did everything they need to do. They got him out of there.”
