After Ivanka Trump and her husband, Senior White House Adviser Jared Kushner, were spotted at a dinner with George Soros on July 1, some internet users are wondering if the couple has been bought and paid for by the Democratic donor.
The event, which was part of an annual party, took place at former Washington Post editor Lally Weymouth's home in Southampton, reports Politico.
Also present was Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, a New York Democrat; legendary film director Steven Spielberg; Republican activist, chemical engineer and businessman David Koch; and Kellyanne Conway, senior counselor to the president.
Soros, a Hungarian-American investor, philanthropist and vocal opponent of President Donald Trump, has long attracted the attention of skeptics and conspiracy theorists, many of whom have said that he has directly paid anti-Trump protesters and other liberal activists to march and rally against the president.

PolitiFact notes that there is no hard evidence that Soros uses "paid minions," although the has reportedly donated to and partnered with several organizations -- such as Planned Parenthood and the National Resource Defense Council -- which played a major role in the Women's March and other liberal, progressive and anti-Trump rallies.
Kushner reportedly conducts business with Soros through Cadre, a real-estate tech startup co-founded and co-owned by Kushner, notes a Business Insider report, according to Marketwatch.
"What [the dinner] should demonstrate to everyone is that at the end of the day, money is running the show," one internet user commented on The Hill's Facebook page. "Doesn't matter if it's democrat or republican, liberal or conservative, progressive or alt right. Our political, social and economic systems in this country are in the hands of the super rich. And while our overall apathy as a citizenry and failure to turn out to vote allow it to continue we should not be surprised to learn we've evolved (or devolved) into an oligarchy."

Others said that the meeting is proof that "your vote doesn't matter" and that Ivanka "is a lefty" but that the businesswoman, who is now an assistant to the president, "only changed parties for appearances" when her father became serious about politics.
"They're all friends," said another. "They just pretend to hate each other to rile up the American people against each other."
Another person joked that Soros pays for "all those lefty protests against [Mr.] Trump" using "professional protesters," but that "personally" he is "still waiting" to cash in on those "protest checks."
