President-elect Donald Trump's transition team is butting heads over potential Secretary of State Mitt Romney, who is a former Republican presidential nominee, leaving Trump furious.
Campaign manager and top adviser Kellyanne Conway said that considering Romney for a cabinet position is a betrayal to the entire country.
"I'm all for party unity, but I'm not sure we have to pay for that with the secretary of state position," she told CNN. "It's just breathtaking in scope and intensity the type of messages I've received from all over the country ... the number of people who feel betrayed to think that Gov. Romney would get the most prominent Cabinet post after he went so far out of his way to hurt Donald Trump."
Her comments left Trump furious, according to a political insider, and he and other top aides for the Trump transition team are worried that Conway is trying to go rogue and push her own agenda onto the American public, according to CNBC.

"Kellyanne went rogue at Donald Trump's expense at the worst possible time," said a source close to Trump to CNBC.
Conway says that her disapproval of Romney comes from his past attacks on Trump and his campaign, according to CNN.
"There was the Never Trump movement and then there was Mitt Romney he gave speeches against Donald Trump, he attacked his character," she said.
But, by publicly attacking a possible cabinet choice, she is hurting the Trump transition team and preventing them from looking like a united front.

A top aide added that many within Trump's inner circle were "baffled" at Conway's behavior and comments, with one saying "instead of driving Donald Trump's message, she's pushing her own agenda."
"It's dangerous," the source added.
Reince Preibus, Trump's Chief of Staff, defended the possible Romney-pick, calling Trump's camp a "team of rivals," and claiming that the president-elect is trying to make the best decision for the American people.
"He's going to be making the best decision for the American people. It isn't a matter of warfare. I mean, there's a lot of opinions about this and, yes, it is sort of a 'team of rivals' concept if you were to go towards the Gov. Romney concept," he said, according to CNN.
Conway has responded to reports that she has angered Trump and his team, calling the story "false."
"It's all false. And sexist," she said via text to CNBC. "I [can] have any job I want. May stay outside ... and run the political operation. [Trump] wants me by his side."
