Another House Democrat has filed an article of impeachment against President Donald Trump, and that could mean the beginning of the end for both the president and first lady Melania Trump.

Rep. Brad Sherman of California has accused Trump of obstructing investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, Time reported.

According to Sherman, the president obstructed justice in part by firing FBI Director James Comey. He filed the article the day after the president's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., acknowledged that he agreed to meet with a Russian lawyer after being promised damaging information about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in June 2016.

Sherman acknowledged that filing the article is a mere "first step on a very long road." Still, he remains hopeful that his colleagues will come around.

"But if the impulsive incompetency continues, then eventually -- many, many months from now -- Republicans will join the impeachment effort," Sherman said in a statement.

Sherman's chances of success appear bleak with a Republican-led House. The House Democrat does not even have the support of members in his own party, according to Time. Only Texas Democrat Al Green has also declared he is drafting articles of impeachment against Trump.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders called Sherman's decision "utterly and completely ridiculous" and "a political game at its worst."

The news comes shortly after a new survey on 1,013 active alcohol drinkers by drug and alcohol rehabilitation group Detox.com revealed that more than 73 percent of Democrats would give up drinking for life if Trump were impeached tomorrow.

The enthusiasm was significantly lower for Republicans, as only 17 percent said they would give up alcohol for a Trump impeachment. The survey also showed that about 31 percent of Republicans would give up drinking if it meant the media would stop writing negative articles about the president.

Although Trump Jr. admitted to meeting with a Kremlin-connected lawyer in an attempt to get dirt on Clinton during his father's presidential campaign, he said he received no information about the former secretary of state.

The president's son released emails between himself and British-born former tabloid reporter and entertainment publicist Rob Goldstone, who helped set up the meeting. Trump Jr. did so after learning The New York Times was going to publish the email chain, according to the newspaper.

"The Crown prosecutor of Russia met with his father Aras this morning and in their meeting offered to provide the Trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father," Goldstone wrote in part. "This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump - helped along by Aras and Emin."

"Thanks Rob I appreciate that," Trump Jr. responded. "I am on the road at the moment but perhaps I just speak to Emin first. Seems we have some time and if it's what you say I love it especially later in the summer. Could we do a call first thing next week when I am back?"
