House Committee On Benghazi Tries To Delay Hillary Clinton's Testimony, Cites Lack Of Information

Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, the chairman of the House committee on Benghazi, said he can’t schedule Hillary Clinton’s testimony until the State Department gives him important documents.

“The committee must have the records of communication requested more than six months ago before the secretary’s appearance can be scheduled,” Gowdy wrote in a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry.

Gowdy initially requested that Clinton appear before the panel next week for a hearing on both Benghazi and her use of a private email account. Clinton’s lawyer David Kendall already told the House committee that the presidential candidate will only appear once. “On such a day, she will stay as long as necessary to answer the Committee’s questions, but will not prolong the Committee’s efforts further by appearing on two separate occasions when one will suffice,” he said in a letter.

Gowdy slammed the Obama administration for procrastinating on sending him documents related to Benghazi. “You pledged your support and cooperation for the work of this committee when you assumed your current duties… yet the committee finds itself in the same place it was six months ago with respect to relevant communications from only ten former senior officials — not one single piece of paper or email has been produced to the select committee from the 7th floor principals,” he wrote.
