GOP Staffer Elizabeth Lauten Sparks Controversy After Criticizing Malia And Sasha Obama

| by Charles Roberts

A former media director for the Republican National Committee found herself in hot water this week after she wrote a blistering rant about First Daughters Malia and Sasha Obama.

As noted by The Daily Mail, Elizabeth Lauten took to Facebook in the immediate aftermath of President Barack Obama’s annual turkey pardoning in order to criticize his 16-year-old and 13-year-old daughters for both their appearance and their demeanor.

“Dear Sasha and Malia,” she wrote, “'I get you're both in those awful teen years, but you're a part of the First Family, try showing a little class.”

Later in the same post, she wrote that the girls should dress “like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar.”

On Saturday, after repeated calls for her to be fired, Lauten issued an apology saying that
“judgmental feelings truly have no place in my heart.”

It remains to be seen what impact Lauten’s initial comments and her subsequent apology will have on her professional career.

Update: She resigned on Monday morning.
