Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tennessee, criticized his colleagues in Congress for being “midgets” on Tuesday.
Shortly before a Senate Banking Committee vote, Corker criticized his fellow lawmakers for allowing scores from the Congressional Budget Office to play a roll in policy decisions.
“I’m sorry it just feels like a bunch of midgets up here worrying about some CBO issue,” Corker said.
President of Little People of America Gary Arnold told Politico that the term "midget" is a slur.
“Today, no matter in what context it is used, the word dehumanizes and objectifies people of short stature,” Arnold said.
Corker apologized for his remarks on Thursday afternoon.
“I sincerely apologize for what was a poor word choice and in no way meant to offend anyone,” he said.
