Rep. Matt Salmon made headlines last week when he admitted that his son being a homosexual did little to dissuade him from the belief that gay marriage is wrong. This stood in stark contrast to Sen. Rob Portman’s decision to ‘evolve’ when his son opted to come out of the closet.

While appearing on local TV station KPNX this week, Rep. Salmon’s son, Matt R. Salmon, insisted that CNN and MSNBC turned down interviewing him when he refused to bash his dad’s statements. According to him, producers from ‘The Last World with Lawrence O’Donnell’ and ‘Piers Morgan’ both initially reached out when his story broke, however, when it became clear that he wouldn’t trade quick fame for family loyalty, they moved on to more salacious stories.

During the same interview, the younger Salmon refused to label his father a bigot for his anti-marriage equality stance.

"It's hard for me to understand that people will jump to the conclusion that he's anti-gay, he's a bigot," he said. "When really, yeah he doesn't support gay marriage, but that doesn't make him a bigot at all."
