Giuliani Praises Donald Trump, Compares Him To Ronald Reagan

In a recent interview, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani compared current GOP frontrunner Donald Trump to former Republican President Ronald Reagan.

Appearing on MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews” on Aug. 5, Giuliani defended Trump, a friend of the former mayor for over two decades.

“First of all, he’s not a Roman candle,” Giuliani said, according to The Hill. “This is a very smart guy. This is a person who is media savvy in ways that some of the other candidates aren’t. And he’s a lot more substantive than you realize. I’ve known Donald 25 years. Meaning, he understands a lot of the world issues with a lot more depth than you probably realize.”

Guiliani added that "we might have a little bit of Ronald Reagan here, a guy they underestimate."

Despite Trump's lack of political experience, Giuliani believes that he will be able to overcome any difficult questions presented to him by the three-member panel of Bret Baier, Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace at the Fox News Debate tonight, which will feature the top contender for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination.

“And in my particular case, I’m personal friends with five or six of them. And I have a hard time deciding who I’d like to see be president and I’m probably going to take a little while,” Giuliani added.

The first Republican presidential debate will take place tonight at 9 p.m. from Cleveland, Ohio. Due to the overwhelming number of candidates – 17 in total – the top 10 candidates in polls will debate live in primetime while the remaining seven candidates will debate from the same stage at 5 p.m. Both debates will air on Fox News Channel.
