Fox News pundit Bob Beckel told “Cashin’ In” host Eric Brolling Saturday that America needs to “move on” from September 11th.

Guests on the program argued over how to strike a balance between privacy and security in the wake of revelations about the National Security Agency’s PRISM program.

Beckel argued that government surveillance of American civilians was allowed to run rampant because of the Patriot Act. Passed shortly after 9/11, the Patriot Act allowed the federal government to collect a vast array of information on Americans simply because they claimed it was “relevant to an ongoing investigation” – no warrant is required.

“A lot of these abuses began with the Patriot Act,” Beckel said. “When we have a crisis, we pass laws very quickly, and the Patriot Act, if you read it, allowed for a lot of this stuff to happen.”

Beckel said it’s time for the Patriot Act to “go away.”

“9/11, I know you hate to hear this, but 9/11 is over a decade old,” Beckel said. “It’s time we move on.”

“Move on, Bob?” asked Jonathan Hoenig, Fox News contributor and founding member of the Capitalist Pig hedge fund. “How about never forget? I think it’s disgusting to say that. Unbelievable," Hoenig said.

“It’s a day you shouldn’t forget but it’s also a date that should not tie you down from your normal pursuit of a daily job or work or living freely,” Beckel countered.
