Speaking at the 'Preserving Freedom Conference' in Nashville on November 11, Tennessee state Rep. Rick Womick (R) stated: "We cannot have Muslims in our military because we cannot trust them.” The crowd of approximately 150 delivered a standing ovation (video below).
Rep. Womick affirmed his anti-Muslim statement during an interview after the conference: “Personally, I don’t trust one Muslim in our military. If they truly are a devout Muslim and follow the Quran and the Sunnah, then I feel threatened because they’re commanded to kill me.” When asked whether Muslims should be removed from the military, Womick answered, “Absolutely," reports The Daily News Journal.

Womick has since refused to apologize for his statements. Local and national Muslims are calling for the general assembly to rebuke him. Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam (R) said he disagreed with Womick, but claimed it wasn’t his role to denounce the comments.
