During an appearance on MSNBC today, Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS) claimed that many of the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay who are on a hunger strike "had put on weight" (video below).

“The last thing to say about these folks who are supposedly hunger strikers is that they look to me like a lot of them had put on weight.” said Rep. Pompeo.

When asked exactly how he knew this, Rep. Pompeo failed to provide any proof.

"I just know this. I know that these hunger strikers are being well-taken care of. Our men and women down there are doing this in full compliance with the obligations that they are complying with the International Red Cross," claimed Rep. Pompeo, noted MSNBC.

However, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has actually condemned the U.S. military for force-feeding the hunger strikers through their nasal cavities.

“There is a discrepancy between the position of the United States and the ICRC. That’s very much part of, a point on the agenda,” ICRC president Peter Mauer told Reuters in April.

Rep. Pompeo also made the astounding claim that the (indefinite) detentions of Muslims in the Guantanamo Bay prison and the drone strikes that kill Muslims do not cause any Islamic opposition against the U.S.
