Poll: Some Conservatives in Ohio say Mitt Romney is Responsible for Killing Osama bin Laden

| by Michael Allen

A recent poll by Public Policy Polling found that 15 percent of "very conservative" residents in Ohio believe that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is more responsible for the death of Osama bin Laden than President Obama.

Amazingly, 51 percent said they were not sure, while 34 percent said Pres. Obama deserved more credit than Romney, reports the Washington Post.

Among people who described themselves as “somewhat conservative,” 63 percent said that Pres. Obama was more responsible for the death of Bin Laden. Only six percent said Romney was more responsible, while a staggering 30 percent said they were not sure.

In trying to explain the bizarre answers, The Washington Post concuded: “Voters have trouble crediting politicians they don’t like for policy outcomes they do like. And killing bin Laden is a policy outcome they do like. And so partisan effects have led some Republicans to argue that Obama was not primarily responsible for killing bin Laden or, even more absurdly, that Romney was responsible.”
