U.S. Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl has been relentlessly attacked on Fox News over the past week, marking the first time in modern history that an American prisoner of war has been demonized by a major American news outlet.
A handful of former soldiers (working with a former GOP staffer turned publicist) and numerous Fox commentators have attacked Bergdahl, but failed to provide any concrete evidence. That, however, has not slowed down the conservative cable channel's attacks.
"He's pretty lucky that he was brought home the way he was because if those special forces had found him and encountered him and they were looking for him, he would have come home either in a body bag or come home and gone straight to jail," Fox News contributor Kimberly Guilfoyle said on Friday's broadcast of "Outnumbered," reported TalkingPointsMemo.com (video below).
Fox News' Sunday host Chris Wallace asked former U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey today if Bergdahl should get the death penalty, noted RawStory.com (video below).
All of this anti-Bergdahl media may be fueling death threats against the POW's family.

The Guardian reports that there have been four threatening emails sent to Bergdahl's parents, Bob and Jani Bergdahl, who live in Hailey, Idaho.
"The FBI continues to monitor the situation in Hailey, Idaho. We are working jointly with our state and local partners and taking each threat seriously," FBI spokesman William Facer said in a statement.
