Petraeus biographer and alleged mistress Paula Broadwell reportedly met CIA Director David Petraeus in 2006, when she was a graduate student at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and he a was a lieutenant general in charge of the U.S. military in Iraq. Both are West Point graduates.
Harvard's Kennedy School of Government had invited Petraeus to give a speech.
Broadwell wrote in her preface to her book 'All In: The Education of General David Petraeus' that Petraeus passed along his card and offered to help with her dissertation, reports the Daily Mail.
Broadwell wrote: "I later discovered that he was famous for this type of mentoring and networking, especially with aspiring soldier-scholars. I took full advantage of his open-door policy to seek insight and share perspectives."

The dissertation evolved into an authorized biography, co-written with Washington Post editor Vernon Loeb, after President Barack Obama put General Petraeus in charge of Afghanistan in 2010.
Broadwell reportedly made numerous trips to Afghanistan, and had unprecedented access to General Petraeus and his troops.
When Petraeus left the military and became CIA Director, Broadwell kept in contact with him and was sometimes invited to his office for events.
In an interview with The Bismarck Tribune, after the Petraeus biography was published earlier this year, Broadwell said: "He inspires people of all ages to improve themselves. On that note, I would conclude that his sheer energy whether applied to soldiering, scholarly pursuits, public outreach or mentoring can be equally empowering for an organization or an individual subordinate."
