Melanie Trump's plans for a non-political Governor's Ball were scuttled by her husband, as President Donald Trump spoke politics during his speech.
The Independent reports that First Lady Melania Trump set a clear "no politics" rule for the first White House social gathering, which was the Governor’s Ball, where 46 of the 50 governors in the country gathered for a black tie soiree.
But as Trump took to the stage to speak, he broke that rule by talking politics, claiming his administration had achieved "almost everything we've started out to accomplish -- the borders are stricter, tighter."
Prior to the event, Melania had stated, "Tonight, we come together as one nation, leaving political labels and partisan interests behind."
Popular VideoThis young teenage singer was shocked when Keith Urban invited her on stage at his concert. A few moments later, he made her wildest dreams come true.
But the president clearly didn't heed those words, as he brought up health care and his administration's coming focus on the issue. "Tomorrow we're going to meet and we're going discuss things like perhaps healthcare will come up, ... I think we've made a lot of progress on that and we're going to have a speech Tuesday night and we're going to be speaking very specifically about a very complicated subject," he said.
"We're going to have it fixed, and we're going to repeal and replace, and I think you’re going to see something very special," added Trump.
Not all of the Trumps were present for the event. As AOL reports, Ivanka Trump split her time between the Governor's Ball and a Monster Truck event in Washington, D.C., where she and husband Jared Kushner took their three children -- Arabella, Joseph, and Theodore.
The Governor's Ball is an annual event held at the White House. The theme of this year's Governor’s Ball was "Spring Renewal."
