Report: Eric Trump's Charity Paid Trump Foundation 100K

| by Lauren Briggs

A report published on June 6 alleges that $100,000 of the charity money Eric Trump raised for pediatric cancer research went straight to his father's company.

The Forbes report states that Eric Trump's charity golf tournaments have raised millions of dollars for the cause, but a sizeable amount of those donations went to the Trump Organization to pay for the expenses associated with using President Donald Trump's golf courses.

It started around 2011, when the cost of Eric Trump's tournament rose from $46,000 to $142,000, after his father stopped providing the golf course for free.

"In the early years, they weren't being billed [for the club] -- the bills would just disappear," Ian Gillule, the former membership and marketing director at Trump National Westchester, told Forbes. "Mr. Trump had a cow. He flipped. He was like: 'We're donating all of this stuff, and there's no paper trail? No credit?' And he went nuts. He said: 'I don't care if it's my son or not -- everybody gets billed.'"

From then on, Eric Trump's cancer-fighting organization began sending the payments to the Trump Foundation, which reportedly went on to use some of the charity's money to make a political donation, purchase portraits and settle a business lawsuit.

"I saw that Eric was getting billed," said Gillule. "I would always say, 'I can't believe that his dad is billing him for a charitable outing.' But that's what they wanted."

Forbes also notes that at least four of the charities President Trump donated to have rented Trump's golf course in order to host charity events themselves.

"My father has contributed so much to the foundation -- without our properties, [the Eric Trump Foundation] for all practical purposes, wouldn't exist," Eric Trump told the Washington Post, adding that he has received "hundreds of thousands of dollars" in donations from his father. "I'm able to contribute millions of dollars a year to St. Jude, largely expense-free, because of him."

The Post estimates that Eric Trump has received more than $210,000 worth of gifts and donations from President Trump's businesses, though it was unable to find any from the president's individual accounts.

"He is not the type who cares about a golf sign or being in a program," Eric Trump said of his father. "He donated to support me ... to support his kid that was getting a foundation off the ground and contributing to a great cause."
