Though Kim Davis, the Kentucky County clerk who was jailed after she defied a Supreme Court order to issue marriage licenses, was hailed for actions by the likes of Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, she was long-time Democrat.
However, since her legal kerfuffle, Davis and her family have switched party affiliations.
"My husband and I had talked about it for quite a while and we came to the conclusion that the Democratic Party left us a long time ago, so why were we hanging on?" Davis told Reuters before speaking at a Family Research Council event on Friday.
However, some opined that Davis’ party affiliation is less important than how she acts. “the point being made about her political affiliation is almost completely irrelevant because it tells you virtually zero about the set of beliefs and legal arguments at the center of this bring-your-own tea pot, we-want-to-have-a-tempest matter,” Lewis Gould, a professor emeritus in history at the University of Texas at Austin, told the Washington Post earlier this month.

For her part, Davis has never apparently cited her political affiliation as a reason for why she denied same-sex couples marriage licenses. Davis considers herself an Apostolic Christian, which “ does not approve of practiced homosexuality,” according to New Apostolic Church International.
