Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump told said April 28 that he would not rule out using nuclear weapons on ISIS.

According to The Hill, Trump would consider using nukes on the terrorist group in Iraq and Syria; the latter is an ally of Russia.

Trump said:

I don’t want to rule out anything. I will be the last to use nuclear weapons. It's a horror to use nuclear weapons. The power of weaponry today is the single greatest problem that our world has, and it’s not global warming like our president said, it’s the power of weapons, in particular, nuclear. I will be the last to use it. I will not be a happy trigger like some people might be, but I will never, ever rule it out.

The Hill notes that Trump made a similar statement regarding using nukes in Europe, and has suggested giving nuclear weapons to Japan and South Korea because of North Korea's nuclear capability, which would violate U.S. non-proliferation policies.

The Washington Times reports that NBC-TV's "TODAY" show host Matt Lauer suggested to Trump that his unpredictability might be seen as a mask to cover his lack of important details.

"I have a total grasp of the details — far greater than just about anybody else, that I can tell you," Trump insisted.

"When I said 'take the oil' — and [I’d] been saying it for a long time — I didn’t want to tell that, but yourselves and everybody else was saying, 'Tell us what it is, tell us what it is.' And after three months, I said, 'Take the oil.’“

Trump, apparently referring to the oil that ISIS sells to finance its operations, added: "Now, I would have preferred not doing that, but politically I really had to because it got to a point where people just had to know. I would have preferred not saying, 'Take the oil,' and when you go in, you surprise [them]."

"Now [they've] fortified oil reserves and they’ve prepared. And we’ll still take the oil, and we should be taking the oil, and we’re not."

The New York Times reported in November 2015 that the U.S began bombing ISIS oil trucks in Syria.
