On Nov. 17, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said that President Barack Obama is intentionally sending Syrian refugees to GOP states.

Trump made his claims during an interview with conservative radio host Laura Ingraham, notes POLITICO.

“They send them to the Republicans, not to the Democrats, you know because they know the problem … why would we want to bother the Democrats?” Trump said.

“In California, you have a Democrat as a governor; in Florida you have Rick Scott so they send them to the Republicans,” Trump added later. “Taking these people is absolutely insanity.”

Trump also tweeted about the refugees on Nov. 17:

Refugees from Syria are now pouring into our great country. Who knows who they are - some could be ISIS. Is our president insane?

However, the Associated Press notes that refugees have been relocated to both Republican and Democratic states, although GOP states have taken more in.

Some Republican governors have promised to block future refugees, but the Refugee Act of 1980 gives President Obama the final word, according to legal experts.

The president mocked Republicans while in the Philippines on Nov. 18, The Hill reports.

"Apparently they are scared of widows and orphans coming into the United States of America," Obama said. "At first, they were too scared of the press being too tough on them in the debates. Now they are scared of three year old orphans. That doesn’t seem so tough to me."
