The conservative publication The Daily Caller sent an intern, 16-year-old high school junior Gabe Finger, to the White House briefing on Wednesday where he asked White House spokesman Jay Carney whether the White House would provide protection to George Zimmerman.

“Because of the death threats being received by George Zimmerman and his parents, is the president going to take any action for their security or are they on their own?” Finger asked.

Carney told Finger that protection would have to come from Florida authorities. He noted that Obama advised against violence in the wake of the Zimmerman verdict.

“So they’re on their own?” Finger responded.

“You can editorialize all you want and I have no doubt that you will, but that is a ridiculous statement,” Carney replied.

Afterwards @GabeemtheFinger tweeted: “Just angered Obama's press secretary. Word.”

Finger is a football player and a junior at Potomac School in McLean, Va.
