Parents Furious Over Trump's Boy Scouts Speech (Video)

| by Michael Allen

Some parents and supporters of the Boy Scouts of America are outraged over President Donald Trump's speech on July 24 at the Boy Scout Jamboree in West Virginia (video below).

At one point during the speech, Trump got the crowd to boo former President Barack Obama, notes The Hill.

"By the way, just a question," Trump said. "Did President Obama ever come to a jamboree?"

After the crowd booed, Trump added. "The answer is no, but we’ll be back."

Obama, who was a Boy Scout, did not address the Boy Scout Jamboree in person, but did record a video in 2010 that recalled the history of the Boy Scouts on their 100th anniversary.

Trump also told the Boy Scouts that he wanted the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, killed, and the crowd chanted, "USA! USA! USA!" reports USA Today.

Trump also bragged about his electoral win over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, who won the popular vote by nearly 3 million.

A Boy Scout official applauded Trump's statements on the stage, but the organization later said that it was "wholly non-partisan and does not promote any one position, product, service, political candidate or philosophy," and added: "The invitation for the sitting U.S. President to visit the National Jamboree is a long-standing tradition and is in no way an endorsement of any political party or specific policies."

Some slammed the Boy Scouts on the group's Facebook page, notes RawStory.

"As a former Scout, as well as a former employee of Philmont Scout Ranch, I am beyond appalled that the Jamboree was turned into a political rally tonight," wrote one Facebook user. "Unless the BSA condemns the President’s conduct (which included bullying, name-calling, and swearing) in strong and clear terms, I will know that there is no place for my two sons in scouting."

"Please apologize for inviting the president to address the Jamboree," commented another, who said he was an Eagle Scout. "You had to know he would say something dumb/offensive/ridiculous -- and he did, of course. In the process, he got Scouts to degrade themselves and embarrassed those of us who are proud of our school-age days in Scouting."

Another said she didn't blame BSA, but also wanted to make a point: "As the parent of a new Cub Scout, I will expect an appropriate statement about what happened at the Jamboree tonight, You are not responsible for what the President said, or even for the disrespect that some of those in attendance showed booing the former President (and Scout), but you are responsible for how you respond and the message that sends."

"Shocked and horrified by what I witnessed today," wrote another. "Forcing these young people to watch a crazy, unhinged speech by someone who encouraged them to boo for a former president. Who could have possibly thought this would have turned out well? Cannot believe anyone on the planning committee actually thought this was a good idea."
