MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry wore a pair of homemade tampon earrings on her show today in order to protest Texas Republicans, who recently banned the feminine product in the state capitol where guns are allowed.
During a recent special session to pass a restrictive abortion bill, the Texas Republican-controlled Senate Gallery actually banned tampons because they claimed pro-choice protesters would throw them at GOP lawmakers.
However, after the media reported the embarrassing ban, it was soon lifted. While Texas Republicans would like to forget the episode, Harris-Perry reminded the nation of it today, noted Mediaite.com (video below).
“My producer Lorena made for me last week some tampon earrings. The Texas state legislature said that you couldn’t bring tampons in, when these women were going to, in fact, stand up for their own reproductive rights," said Harris-Perry.
“So just in case that ever happens again, ladies, you can just bring them on your earrings."
