A new Michigan law forcing women or their employers to buy additional insurance to cover abortions went into effect today.
The law says that women who do not purchase the additional abortion insurance will be forced to pay out of pocket, noted Patch.com.
In December 2013, Michigan's Republican-controlled legislature passed the law, which does not have exceptions for survivors of rape or incest. Many are calling it “rape insurance," reported The Nation.
