Gun sales in the U.S. in 2015 could set a record in the wake of a string of mass shootings that have prompted people to purchase firearms.

According to Time, the FBI processed 185,345 background checks on Black Friday — the most ever recorded in a single day. More than 2 million checks were conducted in November and 19,827,376 were processed in 2015 so far.

The numbers were published before the Dec. 2 mass shooting in San Bernardino, California that killed 14 and injured 21 others. Several states have shown an increase in gun sales since the massacre.

The spike in background checks and gun sales followed a number of mass shootings in the country, including one in Charleston, South Carolina, that killed nine people, one at an Oregon Community College that killed nine and one at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado that killed three and injured nine.
