Video: Mitt Romney is Son of Welfare-Receiving, Mexican Immigrant, Mother Says
The GOP presidential ticket of Mitt Romney and Rep. Paul Ryan is fond of attacking 'social entitlements,' but their campaign has failed to mention that Mitt Romney's father George Romney was on "welfare relief" when he first arrived in the U.S., according to an interview with Romney's mother Lenore recorded in 1962.
George Romney was running for governor in Michigan in 1962, so this interview was part of Lenore's effort to help him get elected, which he was (video below).
George Romney was born in Mexico and moved with his family to El Paso, Texas, during the Mexican Revolution, reports addictinginfo.org.
The family received $250, food, clothing, and other supplies from the U.S. government. The family later invested some of their money in the stock market and used that cash to send George Romney to college.

How does the Republican
How does the Republican platform line up with the BIBLE ? What BIBLE are you reading...what about what you do for the least you do for me?, what about:People will know you are my disciples by the way you LOVE one another? What about not getting your riches and then forgetting GOD and thinking you did it yourself(Deuteronomy)I guess you believe segregated churches are still "christian" and how does the suppress the vote campaign not evoke institutional racism. carolandy The Constitution and the Declaration of Independence are wonderful but they allowed America to say one thing and do another. and how is it that Presidents Reagan, Bush and Bush all increased the national debt and then Republicans come screaming we need to do something about debt when a democrat holds office? if they were so concerned why did they run it up/ LMAO

Here's a fun joke for you
Here's a fun joke for you knight4444:
What happens to old liberals?
(There aren't any...they have all become conservatives. Because with age comes wisdom.)
What happens to old conservatives?
(They die happy and with a clean conscience knowing they were correct.)
As a senior liberal with many
As a senior liberal with many liberal friends my age, I take exception to Carolandv unfunny joke. I am personally ashamed to know that 85% of registered Republicans are over 60. On the other hand, it also makes me very happy to know these people will soon be dead. Many of their own children, already over 35 & parents themselves, reject their version of what America is and will be in 50 yrs. They want their own children to grow up in the 21st century with all the knowledge in the Net at their fingertips. They reject the idea that their daughters have any limitations, especially in their personal health & spiritual choices. Only republicans think the 1950's were the best of times. America's best days are ahead of her if the American Taliban will get out of the way and let us all move forward. There are a lot of seniors who are not afraid of the Net, Atheists, skin-pigmentations or evolution. I am sorry for those living in fear, but your paranoia about the future won't stop it. Your fears just make it more difficult for the USA to lead the world into this great new century.
Look at the Republican
Look at the Republican platform...it lines up perfectly with the Bible, the Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence. If you object to those documents, then all I can wish for you is good luck.
And by the way, Republicans do NOT think the way you say we do...they are not about moving backward, anti-progress, nor are they in any way racist.
I know it's a convenient argument for you to espouse and appear thoughtful, progressive, and empathetic. Reality shows the dems to be significantly less philanthropic, more atheistic, and infinitly more racist (google Rev. Wayne Perryman and his lawsuit AGAINST the democratic party...he is black and a Republican).
So, if you are looking for someone less mindless than the dems, you might have to look to the "American Taliban"...goodness knows logic does NOT reign there! God Bless and may He grant you His wisdom.
I have never seen or heard
I have never seen or heard that Mitt Romney says anything about the President's birth certificate. I don't believe that Republicans don't want folks to be on welfare if it is needed, just not forever. Work for welfare is a good idea. Why so much hate, Knight444.
@madeleine Mulanix you're
@madeleine Mulanix you're hilarious!! quote ''I have never seen or heard that Willard rommey says anything about through presidents birth certificate'' @madeline try August 24th 2012 in Michigan. And @madeline you're confusing sarcasm with hate I don't hate anybody, I just expose ignorant individuals.
Oh let's see here. The fact
Oh let's see here. The fact of the matter is that since he was born to parents receiving welfare that would be a good indication of how he would fare as president. And this story comes to you here so that all his welfare mooching peers can judge him for it. Even though he was a newborn, he could have done something to stop his father from receiving welfare. That's ludicrous to believe that a newborn is helpless. After all people who receive welfare long enough to get on their feet financially are the trash of society. If you want to be a decent citizen, you must draw it for life. And the welfare mooching people have agreed. No Mitt Romney because of this.
George Romney's story just
George Romney's story just proves that one doesn't have to stay on welfare forever. One can overcome and make something of one's life.
Hypocrite Romney. It was ok
Hypocrite Romney. It was ok for his family to receive welfare but not for other families. This is how republicans think. Shameless.
Wow a whopping $250 damn
Wow a whopping $250 damn breaks the Government bank hope the Liberals have more than that. Those who believe that Romney is going to stop benefits for the poor are delusional.
Sounds like @nick barton
Sounds like @nick barton alzheimers is getting severe. stay tuned
Yeah I guess so Knight
Yeah I guess so Knight comparing refugees from a war torn area to illegal immigrants isn't quite the same but I wouldn't expect knowledge like that from Liberals
@nick stop this juvenile
@nick stop this juvenile hypocritical babbling you're spewing! Willard rommey was on welfare PERIOD!! he wants to cripple the very safety net that his dad used!! you republicans are so unbelievably hypocritical! this is exactly why people with any intelligence simply ignores or laughs at you! I obviously chose to laugh!
Inflation, you retard.
Inflation, you retard.
"How do you know so much about everything?'" was asked of a very wise and intelligent man; and the answer was "By never being afraid or ashamed to ask questions as to anything of which I was ignorant." - John Abbott (1821-1893)
That is a hell of a lot of
That is a hell of a lot of inflation.
Wow a whopping $250 damn
Wow a whopping $250 damn breaks the Government bank hope the Liberals have more than that. Those who believe that Romney is going to stop benefits for the poor are delusional.
@nick barton your idiotic
@nick barton your idiotic babble was sickening the first time! repeating it twice just makes you just that much more ridiculous! Ladies and gentlemen I've never heard a republican say this ''Wow a whopping $250 damn breaks the government'' first off @nick barton your grammar is hopeless!! secondly why is it republicans think welfare is always the most destructive thing known to man? why do republicans enjoy hammering people on welfare but when you find out your savior Willard rommey father helped feed his family using welfare it's totally acceptable?? @nick barton you're a hypocrite and clown! you'd be screaming murder at a mother with 3 children living off welfare at $250 a month crying and whining about lazy good for nothing leeches stealing my hard earned money! but when your magic underwear savior Willard rommey received welfare it's no big deal?? hypocrisy thine name is @nick barton
So now, the big pontificator
So now, the big pontificator of conservative values (and other jokes) has been shown to be a liar once again. His father was one of those welfare recipients whom he and his running mate would like to eradicate from the welfare roles. Such hypocrisy. I can't believe that neither Romney nor Ryan learned a single thing about lies coming back to haunt them. I'm watching them swallow their feet. LMAO.
Someone did not do their
Someone did not do their homework. I have heard Mitt Romney say several times that George Romney did NOT go to college.
Sure, but everyone knows
Sure, but everyone knows IOKIYAR. It's OK if you're a Republican. Whether it's prostitutes or gay sex, adultery or sucking on the government teat. If you're a Republican it's AOK. Take what you can get then make sure nothing's left for anybody else.
You're not even making sense.
You're not even making sense.
It's typical republicans
It's typical republicans being hypocrites! Clarence Thomas sorry ass did the same thing! fought like hell to abolish affirmative action for college scholarships but how do you think mr. Thomas got into college?? AFFIRMATIVE ACTION!! republican party = hypocrisy at its best!!
If fail to see the point.
If fail to see the point. Mitt's father was a Mexican immigrant, he was here legally, he needed help so he received welfare, he worked to better himself and got off of welfare and paid taxes. Exactly what is the problem with this?
If you are trying to make the point that Republicans are hypocritical, that is a real poor example. I think the vast majority of conservatives believe in giving a helping hand but not a hand-out. Conservative support immigration as long as it is legal. What's the problem?
The thing is, George Romney
The thing is, George Romney was a US citizen as his parents were both citizens. If one or both parents are citizens, it doesn't matter where you are born, you are automatically a citizen. I wish people would do some research before they post things.
"Mitt's father was a Mexican
"Mitt's father was a Mexican immigrant, he was here legally..."
How do you know? Can you show me his residence visa, applied for and granted BEFORE he entered the country?
Is Mitt actually an "anchor baby"?
"Never attribute to malice, that which can be reasonably explained by stupidity."
~ Spider Robinson
George Romney lived in Mexico
George Romney lived in Mexico with his parents, who were US citizens who moved to Mexico to escape persecution. So, when they moved back, they were already citizens, and so was George, even if he was born in Mexico. People need to get their facts straight before posting false information.
Maybe you should also check
Maybe you should also check your facts too since Romney openly has stated his father was a Mexican illegal immigrant.
He was a citizen of the
He was a citizen of the United States, not a Mexican citizen, so how could he be here illegally???
If I believed it was wrong to
If I believed it was wrong to vote for someone whose father was a Latino that would certainly rule out Mitt Romney.
Likewise, if I were to rule out people to took a one-time help from the government in a time of unusual emergency.
But you can see from this why one should be very reluctant to make even a small compromise with Constitutional principles. Let the government hand out small bits of charity and people will use that to justify socialism!
For heaven's sake, Romney was
For heaven's sake, Romney was not a Latino, he was an American Citizen.
No surprise that what he says
No surprise that what he says and does are 2 diff things. His proposed budget grows all entitlements every year so again, what he says and does are opposed. Why else would his so called draconian cuts that do not exist take almost 40 years to balance the budget?
It's A Miracle He Said She

This is old news. We knew
This is old news. We knew this when he was Governor of MA.
The pinhead author forgot
The pinhead author forgot something in his haste: Romney, Ryan & the GOP are not opposed to all welfare -- just the abuse of it, and the GOP prefers to help people via greater personal productivity -- so people don't need it as much & it doesn't cost the govt so much (which translates into higher taxes for all).
The fellow shot himself in the foot on this article worse than that, too. You see, liberals keep trying to paint the GOP candidates as "better than thou", "high & mighty", lofty, rich people -- "millionairs & bilionaires" who don't know what it's like for most "common" Americans. Ooops, being on welfare seems to blow that, doesn't it? So the Romneys didn't always have a "silver spoon" to eat with, & they DO know what it is like to be more "common". Eat crow, libs!
Well said, HolySmokes.
Well said, HolySmokes.
OMG, not Holy Smokes
OMG, not Holy Smokes again..run for your lives, because here come the comments! LOL Pinhead? geez..and read through the transcrips of the republican party speeches, ESPECIALLY Ryan. they ARE opposed to welfare, they want to gut welfare, they want to decrease taxes for the wealthy, and drop it on the middle class. It's on the record, Holy..and republicans have for the most part since we were Bushwacked HAVE been about entitlement, and benefits for the wealthy. Romney/Ryan want to throw out Obamacare, yet, have come up with nothing, nada, ZIP ZIP on any ideas on what they would replace it with, except to benefit who? the wealthy! Romney's family reached out for public benifits, yes, but he was young. Once they were able to turn it around, which is what we hope all people who have received public assistance can do, they did take advantage of what was given to them, and for that, i do applaud them. But they have long since been removed from the low and middle class, Holy. They also have long since forgotten that this great country is about ALL AMERICANS, not just the wealthy and those that were able to obtain success. So, back to you, HOly, eat crow, there, mr conservative supporter of the wealthy!
Why don't you contribute say
Why don't you contribute say 25% of your income to the poor. If you and all the liberals did this, the government would not have to spend so much on the poor via the welfare system. These people are not even required to do some sort of work for this money. Just occupy the couch and watch their big screen TV. California is the state with the greatest deficit, California has 30% of those on welfare in the USA living in it's boundries. Welfare needs to be cut back. These people live and breed to be on welfare. But the liberals are fine with this as they figure they can bleed the educated, hard working to pay for this and these welfare recipients will always vote Democrat to continue receiving a substancial check for sitting on their asses.
Have you ever had a 'welfare
Have you ever had a 'welfare christmas'? I have. When I was a child, my family was really poor, and on welfare. I'm so tired of hearing people make out as though those on welfare are living the high life on the backs of the hard working. We lived in a ghetto, trailer park. Gun shots and police sirens all the time. Squalor. It was amazingly crappy. So get off your high horse, if you think that those on welfare are just sitting in front of a "big screen tv" you are f*ing delusional. My mother remarried and we got out of that crap, thankfully, since my father was a deadbeat. Bleeding the educated and hard working for those on welfare? Well, still better than bleeding the same group for the rich...
"How do you know so much about everything?'" was asked of a very wise and intelligent man; and the answer was "By never being afraid or ashamed to ask questions as to anything of which I was ignorant." - John Abbott (1821-1893)
You have officially left the
You have officially left the reservation with this rant. Cool off... You make yourself look like a fool... why so defensive?
Why should the actions of a
Why should the actions of a man's father put doubt into his political beliefs. One can disagree with their father, one can even argue that times have changed and what helped them out is not needed anymore. This is just a shameless attack on character. Yes guys, America DOES need some welfare programs. But I stand with the Republicans in that enough is enough. Some of these programs need budget cuts. Some of these programs need stricter qualifications. Let me put it this way. In Texas, there is a small town called Kendleton. In the Kendleton school district, every single kid is on welfare. There is not one student who is not recoeving free lunch at school. But guess what Mommy and Daddy pick them up in after school? New BMW's, Mercedes, Escalades. These people don't have the money to feed their own child, but can afford a new luxury car? Does that seem right at all?
It not only doesn't seem
It not only doesn't seem right - I seriously doubt that it's true.... everything is bigger in Texas - even the BS stories..
Once you start this kinda crap, No one can believe anything you say...
Actually it's completely
Actually it's completely true. If I'm not mistaken the statistics on the percentage of students on financial assistance are a publicly accessible record. Just because something sounds too big to be true doesn't mean it isn't. I was acquainted with a few people who worked at the school, most of whom i would consider reliable and honest. To be sure, I am not trying to start any "crap," but merely making a point based in information that I have gathered from what I would hold to be reliable sources. And even were my story to be false, the point would remain that their are parasites who feed off the system, never contributing anything of their own. To belief otherwise is simply blind naivety.
wow..let's not help those
wow..let's not help those that can't help themselves? What about the people not working that can't find jobs and need unemployment/food stamps/welfare just to get by until they can find work? I've lived in my life in other cities with high unemployment rate, and yes, lots of people on welfare and getting help. But come on, driving BMW's, Mercedes, etc? I would suspect that most of those people had the vehicles long before they perhaps lost their jobs. I've seen it first hand too many times. What they did before losing their jobs, do you think they should all just sell their houses and move into the ghetto? Or sell their cars and not drive (since they have families with children, that's a bit harsh, don't you think?)? Use some common sense before you go about writing things like this. I do agree, though, i would like to see better management of those programs. Just like any program, there are and will be abuses, you can't possibly think that all this will change with Romney in charge!
