Video: CNN Tells Mitt Romney to Take Down Anti-Rick Perry Ad

| by Michael Allen

CNN recently asked Mitt Romney’s campaign to take down an attack ad against Texas Governor Rick Perry (video below), which features CNN footage (along with other networks' video) of Perry stumbling during GOP debates. The ad is intercut with news anchors criticizing him. The ad is sarcastically titled "Ready to Lead?"

Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul released a statement defending the ad and their right to use the CNN footage: “While the use of the CNN clips was fully within our rights under the law, we respect and appreciate the role CNN has played as host in debates over the last several months. For this reason, we are honoring their request to remove the video."

Saul may or may not be correct. 'Fair Use' media laws do allow news organizations to use portions of copyrighted works, but its unclear if that protection extends to political campaigns as well.
