Turkey Politicians Upset Over Picture of President Obama Holding Bat

| by Michael Allen

Some Turkish political leaders are upset after seeing a picture of President Obama holding a baseball bat while reportedly speaking to Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan about Syria, reports the NY Daily News.

Metin Lutfi Baydar, of Turkey’s opposition Republican People's Party, said in a statement: "The photo reveals from whom our Prime Minister receives orders to rule the country."

Reuters reports that Turkey’s Republican People's Party vice president Umut Oran said it was "an implicit insult to Turkey and its citizens."

In response, Caitlin Hayden, a spokesperson for the White House, wrote in a statement: "We released the photo with only one purpose in mind, to highlight the President's continuing close relationship with Prime Minister Erdogan and draw attention to the important conversation they had about the worsening situation in Syria."
